frog50: Shanghai

To continue the celebration of frog’s historic 50-year legacy, our Shanghai studio hosted a curated event that included panel discussions, product exhibitions, screen printing and more. On top of signature exhibitions and activities unique to the Shanghai studio, the space included an interactive installation with an AR wall activated by our frog50 app.

Featured in the Tech Room was an exhibition showcasing iconic product design work produced in the Shanghai studio including Meizu, Yibu and a more recent project, the Xiaomi Blender. The blender itself was placed next to its prototype to showcase how the team leveraged the prototyping process to ultimately make a better product.

The studio party also featured several panel discussions led by the studio’s creative leadership. Chaz Lu (Executive Creative Director), Genda Lin (Associate Creative Director), and Yuzhou Chen (Senior Strategist) opened with a discussion on designing for impact and more specifically how to leverage strategic design to re-activate brands. Joyce Liu (Senior Interaction Designer) and Ryan Li (CEO of Xurface, a frogVentures™ client) discussed new retail opportunities in China and how brands can leverage innovation design to drive user growth. Finally, Brian Wen (GM & Executive Creative Director) opened a conversation with the audience about the outlook of design in China and the role frog and frogVentures™ can play in driving the future.

The party then transitioned to a long-standing frog tradition—screen-printing t-shirts. Two t-shirt designs were printed—an image of Hartmut with a frog peeking over his shoulder and an image of a Chinese food staple, Xiao Long Bao (steamed buns). To wrap up an engaging evening of programming, guests joined frog for rooftop cocktails under the Shanghai moonlight.
