Partnering with global companies in oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, transportation, manufacturing, construction and telecommunications, Avetta provides an enterprise SaaS-based solution for organizations that helps manage risk in their supply chain—from enabling organizations to connect with pre-qualified contractors to assisting contractors in maintaining compliance in the field.
We partnered with Avetta in 2016 to rebuild their offering from the ground up and to develop a new UI. Our goal was to refresh a historically cumbersome app and to design a standardized, user-friendly experience for their customers. Because there was no product documentation, we started from scratch, learning Avetta’s existing platform from the inside out and examining every screen in the platform to understand its purpose. We used a design-first methodology by conducting several months of research with Avetta staff, stakeholders and customers through ethnographic studies, interviews and workshops to pinpoint areas in the customer journey that we could improve with a new UI. Our research uncovered three distinct user personas: clients, suppliers and internal users, while also exposing internal operational inefficiencies and identified the opportunities needed to transform the holistic customer experience.
Using our findings, our interaction design teams identified definitive needs from each user type to streamline workflows, combine functionality and develop interfaces for both in-office and in-the-field risk assessment and management tasks. The visual design team expanded on the Avetta branding guidelines to develop mockups and style guides that represented a modern, structured and simplified aesthetic necessary for an application of this sophistication and price point. The new UI consolidated multiple products into a single, navigable and intuitive experience that reduced time-on-task by upwards of 50% by putting suppliers and direct clients in control with self-service features that provided them with the visibility they require to do their job.
