Sr. Instructional Designer – Experience & Accessibility

What will you be doing?

Experience and Accessibility Designers are responsible for the design of digitally enabled products and services. As a Senior Instructional Designer – Experience & Accessibility, you will use your learning and development skillset across the service, interaction, and visual design domains to craft holistic education—to ensure designers incorporate accessible needs and accommodations from early-stage research and idea generation through detailed design of product service features and user stories in a digital product. You will determine the best approach to disperse foundational accessibility knowledge. Thoughtful socialization of this content (medium, format, length) is critical to success. A robust understanding of product design is critical in terms of designing relevant education for the collective team with an ability to prioritize across product tracks.

In this specific role, you will join a bustling and collaborative team that leads the digital product discovery and design for a global Quick Service Restaurant – one that feeds 1% of the world’s population every single day. You will play a central role ensuring accessibility standards are met and knowledge transfer occurs throughout the product organization, partnering closely with Experience, Product Management and Engineering (who are as passionate about product as they are burgers and fries). Your educational content for accessibility might be focused on things like mobile ordering, loyalty, kiosk, crew facing restaurant technology, or web, just to name a few. This is a hybrid position; three days per week you’ll link up with your team IRL at this global company’s headquarters in Chicago’s burgeoning West Loop.

Your fellow team members will rely on you to:

  • Ensure accessibility knowledge transfer through activities such as training sessions, documentation, and educational materials that empower the team with the skills needed to maintain high accessibility standards
  • Identify and establish best practice patterns in accessibility, creating benchmarks for product design that are inclusive from the ground up
  • Collaborative design work when needed that demonstrates how accessible design not only benefits users with disabilities but enhances the user experience for all Conduct thorough analyses to identify gaps in our current design practices and spearheading initiatives to bridge these with innovative solutions
  • Develop accessible system-level design patterns that serve as the cornerstone for product teams, integrated with Design Language Systems
  • Collaborate with product and technology leads to integrate accessibility into the DNA of our digital products, ensuring that every feature is approachable, understandable, and usable for everyone
  • Cultivate an environment of shared learning, where progress and iterations are welcomed and open discussions on design challenges are the norm
  • Build and maintain relationships with all levels of the design, product, and engineering teams to foster a culture of inclusive design thinking and ensure that accessibility considerations are an integral part of our design philosophy

In this role, you will:

  • Act as an advocate for accessibility within the design community, both internally and externally, to promote awareness and adoption of best practices
  • Define opportunity areas and experience requirements Incorporate research (across generative, evaluative, qualitative, and quantitative) plan tactics to ensure inclusive representation
  • Contribute to existing and future journey maps and blueprints
  • Together with cross-disciplinary teams, create digital product experiences that push the bar for the current and future customer and user experience
  • Craft compelling narratives that bridge user aspirations with business objectives

We want you to have:

  • 8+ years of professional experience in experience/interaction design and accessibility (at least 4+ years of which you supported in a learning and development role), and a robust practical and theoretical grounding in experience design through your studies
  • 4+ years of professional experience in creating and executing Learning & Development material and strategies and/or Instructional Design
  • Ability to work onsite at company headquarters in Chicago three days per wee
  • Familiarity with articulating and incorporating accessibility standards and guidelines into design documents and specification
  • Familiarity with assistive technology
  • Exemplary core design skills, demonstrated in your portfolio of recent work
  • A love of learning new things and growing your skills by diving in head-first to the task at hand
  • Excellent presentation skills, with a strong ability to clearly explain your work to others
  • Experience collaborating in cross-functional teams
  • A deep knowledge of and expertise using design and prototyping tools (such as Figma) and design language systems
  • Affinity for frog’s values, and a passion for creating products that meet peoples’ functional and emotional needs
  • Experience working in an agile product delivery environment
  • Business level ability to conduct business in English
  • Penchant to nerd-out on design and emerging trends

It would be a bonus if you had:

  • Education background or experience in OT, Office of Accommodations with a focus on assistive technology, or a heavy background in assistive technology
  • Experience working in a variety of organizations (start-up, corporate, agency/consultancy)
  • Academic, professional, or life experience from outside the design field that enriches your perspective as a designer
